Give me peanut butter!   Peanut butter and banana sandwiches.  I used to eat two of these a day, and I now know how heroin addicts feel going through withdrawal.  Just so, so delicious.  And chocolate, sweet sweet chocolate.  We have to content ourselves with eating mini ice-cream sandwiches from the small gift shop to get any chocolate, and while it holds me over it isn’t quite satisfying.

Not too much new to report:  wake up at 615, hike, eat, class, class, homework, sleep – repeat.  Today I spent forty minutes observing a spider, who actually did move a few times.  Yesterday we saw an opossum near the dining hall.  Everyone, nature lovers that they are, was very excited and taking pictures.  Me, I see these all the time; heck, I’ve even accidentally hit one in my car.  So not too impressed, though it is interesting I suppose that they can survive in both habitats.  The real question is where are all the monkeys?

Otherwise we watch Flight of the Conchordes (hilarious), study, and play Euchre (by the way, champion right here!  All those Iowa tourneys over the years have finally paid off).  We also spend a lot of time discussing the election and making fun of Sarah Palin.  Then again, the only difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull is lipstick, so perhaps we better be watching out.

Here is a picture of a group from this mornings hike, in front of a 300 hundred-ish old strangler fig (hard to see from the picture).  I’m somewhere in there.  But more importantly, look at how normal everyone looks!  Much better distribution than would be expected from a science program (no offense intended to science people; I’m one too…but really, you know what I mean).  The other is another hiking picture, into the deep green sea.

I really appreciate everyone’s comments!  I know I don’t exactly respond to them, but I always read them and it’s great to hear from you guys!  Hope everything stateside is going great!

ps Bailey and Julie, I’m glad you guys are getting a kick out of this.  Trust me, I can’t believe I don’t run screaming from all the bugs crawling everywhere.  Hope everything is going well, miss you!  Email me any interesting updates.
